Update of New Approach Plate for RNAV (GPS) RWY5

On July 18, 2018, the FAA published a new approach plate for RNAV (GPS) RWY5. The new approach plate has the following changes:

Runway 5 N/A at night

GP 3.77 degrees

Category D N/A

Beginning in June of 2018, the Airport (DM AIRPORTS, LTD) and FAA had several communications to discuss these items during the comment period. As a result of those communications, the airport requested the following changes be made:

  • N/A for night to be removed. There are no 20:1 obstruction issues at this time.
  • GP of 3.66 as proposed by the Airport, due to Terrain issues on the approach to Runway 5 that cannot be mitigated.
  • A request that minimums for CAT D aircraft be added under the nonvertically-guided LNAV and for circling.

Unfortunately, our comments were not advanced as of the publishing on July 18 and these items were not incorporated into the new approach plate. The Airport is currently working with the FAA Flight Procedures group to address these concerns.

We will keep everyone advised as we receive additional information. Should you have any questions, please contact Darren Large at 973-538-6400 ext. 135.

Thank you
