Morristown Airport’s 2017 NBAA Regional Forum Recap

On Thursday, September 7, Morristown Airport (KMMU) welcomed the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and its final Regional Forum of 2017. With the help of NBAA and Signature Flight Support Morristown, Morristown Airport welcomed over 2,000 attendees, 140 exhibitors and over 30 display aircraft.

NBAA’s Regional Forums bring current and prospective business aircraft owners, operators, manufacturers, customers and other industry professionals together for a one-day event at some of the best airports and FBOs in the nation.

Signature Flight Support Morristown was the host FBO for the event that incorporated exhibits, static display of aircraft and education sessions. The Regional Forums help introduce business aviation to local officials and showcase the positive economic impacts that business and general aviation have on a community.

This was the first time that Morristown Airport acted as the host airport for a Regional Forum hosted by NBAA. The event provided great exposure for the airport to business aviation professionals who operate in the New Jersey and New York areas.

Education sessions at the Regional Forum included an outlook for business aviation in 2017 and beyond and mentoring business aviation’s future workforce.

PALS and Sky Hope Pair to help with hurricane relief

Patient AirLift Services (PALS) and Sky Hope Network have recently partnered to form the PALS Sky Hope Disaster Relief Program.  Through a network of industry partners and the NBAA HERO Database, the PALS Sky Hope Disaster Relief Program stands at the ready to respond to areas in need of humanitarian relief – particularly those inaccessible by roads.  In response to Hurricane Harvey, PALS Sky Hope was able to deliver medical supplies, vaccines, dry goods, and relief workers, as well as carry evacuees from shelters to family members after having lost their homes.  We aren’t done with our support in Southeast Texas, but our attention is shifting to South Florida as we wait to see what Irma has in store for us.

If you or your company would like to become part of PALS Sky Hope Disaster Relief Program to provide support to areas in need, you can view more information and apply online here: http://www.palservices.org/disaster-relief/

For questions, you can contact Jen Hotsko at 516-640-7200 or email the relief team at relief@palservices.org.

Pilots flying IFR out of Morristown Airport

Morristown Air Traffic Control Tower
4 Airport Rd

June 23, 2017
Pilots flying IFR out of Morristown Airport:
MMU Tower was recently notified by Washington Center, through FAA Traffic Management, that MMU Tower had issued Low Level SERMN South clearances to aircraft when the tower had reasonable knowledge that the pilot did not intend on landing at the destination in the clearance. FAA Traffic Management has asked me to inform pilots flying out of MMU that the practice of filing for a destination airport that is not the actual intended destination airport, and then requesting a higher altitude and/or continuing to the actual intended destination, is not a good practice and negatively impacts the flow of the National Airspace System. In the future, aircraft will be expected to land at the destination airport filed in their clearance unless diverting due to weather, mechanical issue, or in case of emergency. Additionally, pilots are reminded that SERMN Escape Routes have a restriction that the pilot must comply with the altitude restriction and not request higher.

January MMU Spotlight: John Loofbourrow

Each month in 2017, Morristown Airport will highlight certain individuals and organizations at the airport with, “The MMU Spotlight.” The Spotlight will showcase the importance of business aviation, the love of general aviation and everything in between. Patient AirLift Services

Patient AirLift Services arranges free air transportation based on need to individuals requiring medical care and for other humanitarian purposes. We have a network of volunteer pilots who provide this service without compensation using their own or rented aircraft. In no case are fees of any kind charged for these services.
Generally the individuals who utilize our services have limited financial resources or are receiving diagnosis, treatment or follow-up for various types of acute or chronic illnesses or conditions that make it either financially impossible or otherwise infeasible to use public commercial or private charter transportation.

Construction Updates as of 1/5/2017

Good Morning,

This year Morristown Airport will be continuing its multi-year Keel Repair Project on Runway 5-23 that was previously delayed.  In a project funded by the NJDOT, the Airport will repave the final 3,000 feet of the southern end of the runway. Similar to previous Keel projects, we will be repaving the center 50 feet. In order to retain the funding provided by the NJDOT, this project must be completed in the first half of 2017.

Phase 1 – Test Strip

Runway 13-31 Closed – 6am Monday, May 15th through Friday, May 19th

Runway 13-31 will be closed for five (5) consecutive days to allow for the paving of a test strip.  This test strip will ensure that the contractor has the correct paving methods and mix established for the work on Runway 5-23.  Runway 5-23 will remain open during this time.

Phase 2 – Milling & Paving

Runway 5/23 Closed – 6am Friday, June 2nd through Monday, June 5th at 6am

Runway 5-23 will be closed for milling and paving outside of the safety areas for Runway 13-31.  Runway 13-31 will remain open during these dates.

Phase 3 – Milling & Paving

MMU closed to fixed wing traffic – 6am Monday, June 5th through Sunday, June 11th

During this seven (7) day closure of both runways, the intersection of the two (2) runways will be milled and paved.  Morristown Airport will be closed to fixed wing traffic during this time.

Phase 4 & 5 – Grooving & Painting

Runway 5-23 will be closed from 2200L-0600L daily beginning Tuesday, July 11th and ending Friday, July 21st

During this night work, grooving and marking of Runway 5-23 will be completed.  Runway 13-31 will be open during this closure except for 4 nights which will consist of the grooving and marking of the intersection of the two (2) runways. Morristown Airport will be closed to fixed wing traffic during those 4 nights; which will be determined within 30 days of these phases beginning.
